In A Dill Pickle, the New Zealand writer, Katherine Mansfield, adopts authorial voice, enters the characte's heart and observes through her point of view, quots and describes the character objectively, as well as controlling the giving and restraining of information, adjusts the distance among the author, the character and the reader, and thus establishes the author's authority. In the meanwhile, the author builds' a bridge of sympathy between the reader and the character so that they could possibly reach an agreement and share the value judgment, which strengthen the author's authority indirectly. The author, by means of all these, wins over the reader, and makes sure of the unanimous value judgement of the reader and herself in the end.
