Efficacy study of music therapy for depression after schizophrenia

Objective To explore the effect of music cure for patients with depression after schizophrenia.Methods 120 cases of schizophrenic patients with depression from Ningbo Kangning Hospital were randomly divided into experimental group(n=60) and control group(n=60).The control group received conventional therapy,nursing,and participated in general recreational activities while the experimental group was treated with music therapy.Before treatment and after 6-week treatment,the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale(HAMD),self-rating depression scale(SDS),Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale(BPRS),Symptom Checklist(SCL-90) and in-patient psychiatric patients assessment of rehabilitation efficacy rating scale were use for evaluation.Results After treatment,HAMD,SDS to improve the situation was better than that before treatment.Compared with the control group there was significant difference(P≤0.05).BPRS assessment of the two groups after treatment was lower than that before treatment,but the difference was not statistically significant.After treatment,rehabilitation effects rating scale scores,life skills and ability to work were higher compared with those before treatment with significant differences(P≤0.05).Conclusion Music therapy can improve the emotional problems and behaviors of schizophrenia patients so as to enhance the initiative and life quality of patients.
