Reconstruction interlocking intramedullary nail for complex femoral fracture

Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of reconstruction interlocking intramedullary nail for complex femoral fracture and the method and tips of application. Methods 18 cases of complex femoral fractures were treated with closed or open reduction and reconstruction interlocking intramedullary nail fixation. Results 18 cases were followed up for 6~19 months, 6.5 on average. The bony healing time was 4.5~10 months, 6.5 on average. The excellent and good rate was 94%. No complication was found. Conclusions The cephalomedullary interlocking, integrating the fixator with femoral neck and shaft, permits early weight-bearing and functional exercises, which is beneficial to the fracture healing. Reconstruction interlocking intramedullary nailing is an ideal way for complex femoral fracture.
