Abstract
Objective To determine the levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) of bone marrow supernatants and plasma in patients with acute myeloid leukemia and assess its clinical implication.Methods Twenty-three patients with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia were served as research objects. VEGF levels in bone marrow supernatants and plasma were measured by sandwich ELISA.The bone marrow supernatants in patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of no bone marrow infiltration(n=8)and plasma of healthy subjects(n=5)were respectively served as controls.Results VEGF levels of pre-chemotherapeutic bone marrow supernatants and plasma in newly diagnosed patients with acute myeloid leukemia were significantly higher than those in control groups (all P0.05),and VEGF levels of bone marrow supernatants were obviously higher than that of plasma(P0.05 ).VEGF level in bone marrow supernatants was correlated with VEGF level in plasma(r=0.484,P=0.031).The plasma VEGF levels either in complete remission group(n=6) or in non-remission group(n=4) after therapy were all obviously higher than those before chemotherapy(all P0.05),but there was no significance in two groups(P0.05).VEGF levels of bone marrow supernatants in complete remission group and non-remission group after therapy were all decreased than those before chemotherapy,but had no statistical significance(P0.05),and there was no significance in the two groups(P0.05).Conclusions The VEGF levels of pre-chemotherapeutic bone marrow supernatants and plasma in newly diagnosed patients with acute myeloid leukemia are significantly increased,and level of bone marrow supernatants is markedly higher than that of plasma.There are changes after chemotherapy in the levels.The results have diagnostic value about acute myeloid leukemia,and might provide a new way for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia,but could not be an index to assess therapeutic effect.
