Abstract

ObjectiveTo explore the antioxidant role of nimodipine in experimental-epilepsy rats.MethodsFifty Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups: control group, epilepsy group, and 0.1 mg-,0.3 mg-,and 0.5 mg-nimodipine groups. The incubation period, duration, and the onset of epilepsy were observed and SOD,MDA,and GSH-PX of brain tissue were determined in the nimodipine group. The results were compared with those of the PTZ epilepsy group.ResultsThe onset in nimodipine-pretreatment group was characterized by light seizure, prolonged incubation time, short duration and high SOD, low MDA and GSH-PX.There were significantly difference between them(F=10.720-35.831,P0.01).ConclusionAntiepileptic role of nimodipine may be achieved by its antioxidation.
