Abstract

In order to probe into the mechanism of male sterility of Xanthoceras sorbifolia Bunge, the anatomy of sta-men was studied and the male sterility-associated proteins were analyzed by two dimensional electrophoresis. Results show that: 1) Pollen of the three types of anthers (anthers of bisexual flower, long filament stamen of male flower and short filament stamen of male flower) can germinate but the proportion of the plump pollen of the former is lower than that of the latter two. The pollen sterility probably happens at the time of dikaryocyte. 2) The short filament of male flower can elongate in the late developmental stage. Its anther can break and give out pollen. However, the short filament of bisexual flower cannot elongate and its anther cannot break. So male sterility mainly lies in the anther's failure to break and the abortion of some pollen. 3) In bud stage, an-ther's proteins of bisexual and male flower have no difference, however there are at least 2 proteins (B_1, B_2) expressed differently in florescence. B, was purified with the sequence of AGSDDVKVPIHPGSG. Homologous sequence has not been found yet through blast in protein date base.
