Abstract
Objective To evaluate the efficacy of bilateral deep brain stimulation(DBS) in the treatment of Parkinson′s disease(PD).Methods Six PD patients were undergone DBS, implanted electrodes to bilateral subthalamic nucleus(STN) guided by MRI, and implantable pulse generators were implanted at the same time. Results There was significant improvement in all six patients post-operation without any severe complications. The tremors disappeared completely, rigidity relaxed, gait and posture improved obviously. Especially, bilateral DBS of STN may significantly decrease the dose equivalents of levodopa. Conclusion Bilateral DBS of STN is associated with significant improvement in motor function in PD patients. It is indiciated that DBS is an effective and safe measure to treat PD.
