Abstract

Courtesy words in Chinese and English are pragmatically different in greeting,addressing,begging,respecting and self-effacing because of different culture and Politeness Principles,which usually leads to failure in intercultural communication.The participants in intercultural communication should overcome the interference from mother tongues,grasp and use the courtesy words in Chinese and English correctly to make the communication successful.
