Abstract

Step-solution was developed to improve the current heat-treatment for Al-Zn-Mg-Cu aluminum alloys. The effects of step-solution on recrystallization behavior and local corrosion behavior of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu aluminum alloys were investigated by optical microscopy and SEM observation, rockwell hardness, electric conductivity test, stress corrosion cracking test, intergranular corrosion and exfoliation corrosion test. The results show that compared to the results of current solution treatment, the recrystallization fractions of the studied alloys reduce markedly after step-solution.Moreover,the resistance to intergranular corrosion, exfoliation corrosion and stress corrosion cracking of the alloys is enhanced evidently by step-solution.Meanwhile,the hardness of the alloys increases slightly.
