The Existential State and Cultural Basis of Taiwan Hakka Immigrant-cultivating Society——Taiwan Hakka Literature as the Field of Study

Taiwan Hakka literary creation, having been marginalized for a long time, began to emerge in wake of the abolishment of the martial law in Taiwan in 1987. With Taiwan Hakka literature as the field of study, this paper aims to probe into the existential state and ethnic culture of Taiwan Hakka immigrant-cultivating society in three aspects: the unique living environment in Hakka settlements, the agricultural life style, and the local custom of worshipping traditional rituals. Besides, by scrutinizing the living traits of Hakka immigrant-cultivating society represented in Taiwan Hakka literature, the paper also tries to trace the historical origin between Hakka culture and the agricultural culture on the central plains.
