Kappa angle adjustment on higher order aberration after LASIK in myopic eyes

Abstract

Objective To investigate Kappa angle adjustment with the effects to lessen higher order aberration and improve visual quality or not after laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK).Methods Forty cases(80 eyes)with myopia and myopic astigmatism were selected.Own control was established in Kappa angle adjustment group and traditional LASIK group for myopia.Postoperative spherical aberration and comatic aberration were compared.Results Higher order aberration was detected preoperatively and at 1 month postoperatively.The variations of spherical aberration and comatic aberration between pre-and post-operation were(1.603±0.619)×10-3mm,(0.521±0.766)×10-3mm in Kappa angle adjustment group,and(1.543±0.609)×10-3mm,(0.334±1.495)×10-3mm in traditional LASIK group,respectively.There was no significant difference between two groups after paired t test(P0.05).Conclusions Comparing with traditional LASIK,Kappa angle adjustment cannot effectively lessen the formation of higher order aberration,and no significant difference is found postoperatively.
