Abstract

Objective To investigate leptin level and its role in polycystic ovary syndrome. Methods Thirty-six patients with PCOS and twenty-six control women were included in the study. In all patients, serum concentration of leptin, fasting plasma glucose, fasting insulin,FSH and LH were measured in a basal sample.Body mass index(BMI) and insulin sensitivity index(ISI) were calculated. Results Serum leptin and insulin levels in PCOS were significantly higher than those in control group,ISI were significantly lower than that in control group.Serum leptin was positively correlated with BMI and insulin, negatively correlated with ISI.Conclusion The leptin concentration is abnormal in PCOS women.Leptin plays a crucial role in pathogenesis of PCOS by modulating insulin.
