Abstract

Vibrating-wire technique has been applied to design a viscometer for precise measurements density and viscosity. The theory and work equation for viscometer based upon the principle of a circular-section rod, immersed in a fluid and, performing transverse oscillations perpendicular to its axis, were presented. The (design) and operation process of vibrating-wire viscometer were described. It was mainly composed of the (vibrating) sensor, the temperature control system, the pressure control system, and the signal adjust system. The instrumental parameters were determined. The viscosity and density of hexane in the temperature range 298.15 K to 403.15 K, at pressure 0.10 MPa and 5.1 MPa were measured. The measured results of density of hexane were compared with literature values. The error of density confirmed with the measurement of hexane (is ±0.5~0_0.) The viscosities have precision of ±0.5~0_0 and an error of ±2.0~0_0.Now it has been used to measure density and viscosity of fluid on high temperature and high pressure.
