Abstract
Biomass may be utilized for ethanol production.The physical structure and chemical composition of biomass limit the enzymatic digestibility of cellulose. Therefore,biomass should undergo pretreatment to remove lignin and hemicellulose and liberate active fibers. Among various methods of pretreatment, steam explosion owns effectiveness and cost advantage and shows great promise.
