Abstract

Objective By exploring the expression of transforming growth factor- β1 (TGF-β1) in renal tubular epithelial cell in type2 diabetic (T2DM) rats to reveal the role of TGF-β1 in diabetic nephropathy (DN) and its relation to renal function. Methods T2DM rats were made by high-sugar and high-fat diets, associating injection of small count streptozotocin (STZ) in abdominal cavity to determine expression of TGF-β1 in proximal tubular epithelial cells by immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry at 12, 24 weeks. Results TGF-β1 expression increased in renal tubular epithelial cell in DM group and had temporal dependency. The result of flow cytometry was consistent with that of immunohistochemistry. Conclusions The expression of TGF-β1 in renal tubular epithelial cell in T2DM rats gradually increased with the time, which is significantly positive correlation with renal function.
