On Maternal Love in Beloved

Abstract

Toni Morrison's famous novel Beloved is about a mother who kills her smallest daughter,which is an amazing action under the oppression of slavery. It shows a kind of maternal love,almost crazy and abnormal. On the basis of detailed analysis of maternal love in Beloved,the thesis analyzes Sethe's love in different periods,which embody the complexity of maternal love in a specific historical background.
