Abstract
Speed is one of the important causes of traffic accidents. It directly affects the incidence rate and severity of traffic accident. In order to find the relationship between speed and accident, and to reduce the loss of the accidents caused by speed, they were deliberately studied. The relationships between average speed and accident risk, speed deviation and accident incidence and speed and accident severity are analyzed.Following suggestions are made,i.e.to reinforce the speed regulation,to control average speed of the traffic flow,to reduce the speed difference at adjacent road sections and to adopt the 85 percentile speed as the upper limit of the control speed.Measures to set up speed limit are introduced aiming at reducing traffic accidents and their losses.
