Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical effect of small incision cataract surgery in the treatment of hard nuclear cataract. Methods Two hundred and ninety one eyes of 269 patients with hard nuclear cataract from degree Ⅳ to Ⅴwere involved in the study, and were randomly divided into two groups: the small incision non-phacoemulsification group(139 cases,157 eyes) and the extracapsular cataract extraction group(ECCE,130 cases,134 eyes). The difference in the visual acuity, corneal astigmatism and complications were compared. Results There was no statistically significant difference(p0.05) in the two groups in postoperative uncorrected visual acuity. While the diopter of corneal astigmatism and the rate of postoperative complications in the small incision non-phacoemulsification group were significantly better than those in the ECCE group(p0.05). Conclusion Small incision cataract surgery has better corrected vision, less corneal astigmatism and complications in the treatment of hard nuclear cataract. It is worthy of popularized in clinic.
