Abstract
Objective To investigate the diagnosis value of 64-MSCT in gluteus medius muscle syndrome.Methods CT images of 8 patients with gluteus medius muscle syndrome diagnosed by clinical and MR were analyzed.CT attenuation of interesting regions selected in both the sick lateral gluteus medius muscle and the corresponding contralateral gluteus medius muscle were measured and compared.Results Among the eight patients,seven patients(87.5%) were found calcification around the end point of sick lateral gluteus medius muscle(greater trochanter of femur).The CT attenuation of the sick lateral gluteus medius muscle(39.1 HU) were lower than that of the contralateral gluteus medius muscle(51.2 HU)(t=6.910,P0.05).Conclusion Gluteus medius muscle syndrome is often associated with calcification around the sick lateral greater trochanter of femur.By measuring the CT attenuation of the gluteus medius muscle,we can diagnose the gluteus medius muscle syndrome effectively.
