Mechanism of Starting Arc in Hollow Cathode Vacuum Arc Welding

Abstract

Hollow cathode vacuum arc welding(HCVAW) technique ,a novel welding technique and having great potential applications in our industry,is introduced in this paper in detail.The differences of discharge characteristics between the hollow cathode arc under low pressure and the conventional TIG arc under atmosphere are discussed.Aslo the paper has dealed with the mechanism of the hollow cathode vacuum arc discharge and analyzed the starting arc process according to the neutralizing theory of ionized gas.The key factors in the starting arc of the hollow cathode discharge process are discussed.
