Abstract
[Objective] To summarize the experience of ventricular-peritoneal shunt (V-P shunt) procedure on treating hydrocephalus, and present the improvement measures. [Methods] Retrospectively reviewed 96 patients with hydrocephalus treated by V-P shunt from 1998 to 2008, and the operation methods, results and complications were analyzed. [Results] A-mong the 96 patients, 13 ( 13.5% ) patients developed complications, including 4 patients infected, 4 patients excessive shunted, 3 patients with shunt tube infracted, 1 patient with epilepsy and 1 patient with intestinal obstruction. [Conclusion] The complication of V-P shunt correlates to several factors. Improving operation methods and designing individual treatment plan will contribute to the decrease of complication of V-P shunt.
