Design, reliability and validity analysis of the questionnaire on factors related to professional values of practice and registered nurses

objective: Two questionnaires are designed for practice and registered nurses respectively to provide a quantitative tool for analysis of factors related to their profes-sional Methods: These questionnaires were designed based on the theoretical frame-work supported by Zhang Jinfu’s concepts of factors related to one’s professional values in his psychological work characteristics of teenagers’ values. Their content validity was tested by experts’ consultation. Reliability and construct validity were tested by investigating 195 practice nurses and 344 registered nurses. Results: Cronbach’s α value which stands for internal consistency reliability of the questionnaires for probationer nurses were 0.917 and 0.904, respectively. Test-retest reliability of the two questionnaires was also high; there was no difference between test and retest on the general score and the score of each component. The experts confirmed their content validity. Factor analysis showed that two questionnaires had good construct validity. The questionnaire for practice nurses comes out with 34 items, while 28 items in the one for registered nurses. Conclusion: The questionnaires for the factors related to professional values of practice and registered nurses have acceptable reliability and validity.
