Abstract

Objective:To explore the effect of rehabilitation therapy combined with facial muscle movement training on functional recovery of idiopathic facial paralysis.Method:Seventy-three patients with idiopathic facial paralysis were randomly assigned to rehabilitation therapy group(n=35)and rehabilitation therapy combined with facial muscle movement training group(n=38).Ultrashort wave and acupuncture were given to patients in the former group.Patients in the latter group were treated with facial muscle movement training in addition to rehabilitation therapy.Assessment was measured before and 21 days after treatment with Sunnybrook Facial Nerve Grading System. Results:After treatment for 21 days, the neurological assessment of Sunnybrook Facial Nerve Grading System in two groups revealed improvement, and there was significant difference before and after treatment. The grade of facial nerve of patients in rehabilitation therapy combined with facial muscle movement training group was significantly superior to that in rehabilitation therapy group. Conclusion:Rehabilitation therapy combined with facial muscle movement training can relieve symptoms and promote functional recovery of idiopathic facial paralysis.
