Abstract
The superabsorbent polymer with good salt tolerance was synthesized with acrylonitrile grafted on xanthan gum through solution polymerization,using N,N′-methylenebisacrylamide as crosslinker and ceric ammonium nitrate as initiator.The effects of factors such as amount of initiator,amount of alkali,temperature,and amount of cross-linking agent on the swelling ratio of the superabsorbent polymer were discussed.The product was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(IR).The results showed that acrylonitrile was grafted on xanthan gum,the absorbent ability of this resin was 1156g.g-1 for pure water and 518g.g-1 for NaCl solution.It was a kind of water-absorbent with good salt tolerance.It was expected to have a high value of application in the fields of agriculture and physical hygiene.
