Abstract
Organic-inorganic hybrid coatings are prepared by sol-gel process, using methyltriethoxy silane(MTEOS) and tetraethoxy silane(TEOS) precursors. The as-prepared hybrid coatings were dense, uniform and defect-free.The corrosion resistance of the hybrid coatings applied on aluminum alloys is particular tested. The coatings show excellent corrosion resistant properties. So the new hybrid chromate-free coating systems can provide long-term and environmental friendly corrosion protection,in the contrast, the traditional chromate-based conversion coatings are toxic and suspicious of carcinogenic danger.
