A clinical experience in Madigan′s prostatectomy for benign prostatic hyperplasia

Objective To inquire into the merits of Madigan′s prostatectomy by summing up the experience of Madigan′s prostatectomy for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).Method Clinical data of 21 cases of BPH that underwent Madigan′s prostatectomy from Mar 1999 to Apr 2001 were analysed retrospectively.Results The advantages of the procedure were quick recovery and less complication.The patients have been followed up for 3～24 months,with statisfactory results in all.Conclusion The advantages of the procedure were the preservation of prostatic urethra,little pain,fast recovery,less complication,easy nursing,and shorter postoperative hospital stay.Madigan′s prostatectomy is indicated mainly in cases of laterolobar hyperplasia with an inapparent midlobar one;the patient must be without intravesical disease,and hadn′t received radiofrequency,microwave,injection and electrocision therapies.
