Abstract
Much has been said recently on the high cost of commercially available Microprocessor Development Systems, but very little attention appears to have been given to the high costs and enormous waste of effort that arise from the use of inadequate facilities. The Key Words are 'adequate facilities', and the cost of providing these must be balanced against the cost of not providing them, and against the expected return from the investment. The paper looks at the level of facilities to choose from, and stresses the need to match the development system against the present and future needs, and the likely return from this investment.
