Macedonia - Road Upgrading and Development Project : resettlement policy framework

The development objectives of the Road Upgrading and Development Project for Macedonia are to improve transport connectivity for road users along corridor VIII between Skopje and the border with Bulgaria, and to improve asset management and planning of the public enterprise for state roads. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (1) cash compensation for affected land at replacement cost (equivalent to the market value of the property, sufficient to replace the lost assets and cover transaction costs); (2) assistance in lease of alternative land and property to re-establish use; (3) compensation for loss of income incurred as a result of relocation including any discrepancies in livelihood; and (4) the right to harvest crops or cash compensation for annual crops at replacement value.
