Abstract
ABSTRACT Ventilation of the lungs accomplished by movements of the ribs is, in the phylogenetic development of the animals, first found in the reptilian class. It may therefore be of interest to investigate the regulation of respiration in this group. The reactions to carbon dioxide and to low oxygen tensions is specially interesting considering the importance of these substances for the respiratory regulation in higher animals and man.
