Abstract

Concrete-polymer materials represent a relatively new technology in the construction industry. In some cases polymers are combined with portland cement concrete and, in other cases, polymers are used as the aggregate binder replacing portland cement mortar. There are three basic types of concrete-polymer materials. Polymer concrete (PC) is a composite material formed by polymerizing a monomer and aggregate mixture. Polymer portland cement concrete (PPCC), sometimes referred to as polymer modified concrete, is a premixed material in which either a monomer or polymer is added to a fresh concrete mixture. Polymer-impregnated concrete (PIC) is a hydrated portland cement concrete.
