Myxoma of the Right Atrium Associated with Polycythemia

THE first intracardiac myxoma to be diagnosed during life was reported in 1952.1 Straus and Merliss2 mentioned 8 cases of atrial myxoma in 480,000 autopsies. Successful removal of intracardiac myxomas has been reported with increasing frequency since 1955.3 4 5 6 It appears that this has been made possible by greater suspicion of the diagnosis and by the use of angiocardiography5 , 6 to visualize the tumors.
