Abstract
Perilla frutescens is known for different chemotypes based on the main components in the essential oils. Leaf-oils of different Perilla Red seed provenances were analyzed by GC-MS: provenance I was classed as PA-type because of the main occurence of perillaaldehyde (p-mentha-1,8-dien-7-al) and limonene. Provenance 2 and provenance 3 had a similar composition of their essential oils, but shisofuran was one of the principal oil components. With increasing light intensity total oil amount was significantly accumulated in the leaves, while the quantitative composition of the essential oils changed.
