Abstract

OBJECTIVE To monitor the distribution and antimicrobial resistance of clinical isolates of Acinetobacter baumannii(ABA)strains from the sixteen hospitals in Hubei Province from 2005 to 2006.METHODS A total of 1546 clinical isolates of ABA strains were collected.Sample′s source, department distribution and detection rate were investigated. The K-B methods were adopted to detect 14 antibiotics′ susceptibility.Drug sensitivity results were analyzed by WHONET5.3.RESULTS Samples were mainly from sputum(76.7%);the most of department distribution was medical department(34.2%).Cefoperazone/sulbactam showed the lowest drug resistance(15.7%),followed by imipenem(18.0%) and meropenem(31.7%).The drug resistance rate of the remaining 11 antibiotics were all between 53.3% and 79.8%.Altogether 263 imipenem resistant strains and 6 pan-drug resistant strains were detected.CONCLUSION The monitoring to the drug resistance of A.baumannii should be strengthened to prevent the outbreak of its nosocomial infection.
