Abstract
Objective To understand the relationship of the prevalence of hypertension with the overweight and obesity in Tianjin.Methods By the stratified cluster random sampling,23 533 adults aged 18 yrs and over were selected from 24 communities during Sep.,2007 to Sep.,2009.Results Prevalence of hypertension increased with body mass index(BMI).The prevalence of hypertension in normal weight group,overweight group and obesity group were 20.1%,37.5% and 52.2%,respectively.Overweight and obesity had stronger association with hypertension in young people(OR: 2.737 and 5.236 in male;3.744 and 7.360 in female)than in middle-aged(OR: 1.913 and 4.090 in male;2.099and 3.942 in female)and old(OR: 1.671 and 2.848 in male;1.674and 2.685 in female).Conclusion Compared with normal weight people,overweight and obesity people have significantly increased risk of hypertension.Young overweight and obesity people deserves more attention in the control and prevention of hypertension in community.
