Abstract
The proof of existence of a competitive equilibrium of a market economy is one of Professor Negishi’s early contributions to general equilibrium theory as well as the proof of stability of a competitive equilibrium. He proved the existence of a competitive equilibrium of a market economy by applying the fundamental theorems of welfare economics.1 The approach is now called the Negishi Method.
