Abstract

In a pot experiment, the effect of inoculation with Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi isolated from heavy metal contaminated soil on the colonization, plant biomass and Cd uptake in marigold plants were investigated. The results indicated that the inoculation significantly increased root colonization and plant biomass.Under Cd addition level of 50mg·kg-1,root colonization and biomass were significantly inhibited in the uninoculated plants, while inoculation increased the root colonization and biomass by 35.4% and 228.2%,respectively.Shoot and root Cd concentrations and uptake markedly increased with increasing Cd addition levels except for the controls, with reduced Cd uptake because of low biomass. For all Cd treatments, inoculated plants had significantly higher shoot and root Cd uptake, and lower Cd concentration was tested in uninoculated plants. With Cd addition, more Cd tranported to the shoot.
