If left untreated, chlamydia and gonorrhea can lead to serious reproductive-health consequences and chronic pelvic pain in women. Chlamydia is usually asymptomatic; studies have shown that up to 40% of women with untreated infections develop pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), mostly with mild or no symptoms, and 20% of women with PID subsequently become infertile.
