Abstract

Investigations were conducted on different diameter class root biomass distribution, root length, specific root length(SRL) and root length density (RLD)of 6-year Alnus cremastogyne plantation in the north Hunan province. The results showed that biomass of big root, middle root, small root and fine root accounted for 55%, 22%, 14%, 9% of the total root biomass, and about 66% of root biomass distributed in 0-30 cm soil layer. The order of different diameter class root length was as follows: fine root small root big root middle root, and that of SRL was: fine root small root middle root big root, and that of RLD was different. Root length density of different diameter root had different distribution vertically and horizontally.
