Abstract

The science and management of environmental- and water-related issues requires an interdisciplinary approach, as recognized by funding agencies, consulting firms, and public organizations. In their role of preparing students for productive professional careers, academic institutions should be able to train students in interdisciplinary approaches, but complications exist in current academic environments that make interdisciplinary education especially challenging. We provide a vision of interdisciplinary graduate education in water and environmental resources in 2050 after presenting a brief assessment of current issues in interdisciplinary education.
