Abstract
A high performance apparatus for hydrogen analysis in metal has been constructed and applied to examine low hydrogen solubility in molybdenum. Hydrogen solubility in a molybdenum single crystal was measured at temperatures of 500-1000 C at a hydrogen pressure of 1.013x10[sup 5] Pa. A linear relationship between the hydrogen solubility and reciprocal temperature was observed in the temperature range between 500 and 1000 C, providing an enthalpy of solution of 37.2 kJ/g-atom. The solubility data were analyzed by a solution model, and partial molar quantities of hydrogen were obtained. (orig.)
