Anther culture was carried out using the sterile F1 hybrids between Nicotiana tabacum and N. sylvestris. Plantlets were developed from 3.4% of the anther. Some plants obtained showed new combinations of characters of the two parents, but they were supposed to be of the tapetum origin.
