Abstract
Contemporary issues in clinical social work can be viewed as the outcomes of transactions between the profession and its environment After exploring the forces that contribute to the social context of clinical social work, this article indicates that resolving certain ecological issues may depend on the professional competence, identity, and autonomy of clinical social workers.
