Abstract
Attempts were made to isolate Japanese encephalitis (JE) virus from mosquitoes collected monthly at pig farms in southern Taiwan from. July 1974 to December 1976. Over 125,000 mosquitoes were identified, separated into 1650 pools, and suspensions were inoculated into Culex tritaeniorhynchus cell cultures and into suckling mice. A total of 68 JE virus isolations were made; 31 from pools of Cx. annulus, 19 from Cx. fuscocePhalus and 18 from Cx. tritaeniorhynchus. More isolates were made from mosquito cell culture (68) than by mouse inoculation (48).
