Abstract
THE earliest description of angina pectoris, that of Heberden1 in 1786, refers to "the relief afforded by wine and spirituous cordials." Since then alcoholic beverages have frequently been recommended or at least permitted in the treatment of angina pectoris, but few efforts to evaluate such therapy have appeared in the literature.
