歯周病は，歯周組織に起こる慢性の炎症性疾患である．口腔内の嫌気性菌が主な原因菌であり，それらと宿主との免疫反応により様々な炎症性物質が産生され疾患が進行する．その病態に生活習慣が影響しているため，現在では生活習慣病の一つとされている．近年は，誤嚥性肺炎や糖尿病，動脈硬化，妊娠合併症などの全身疾患との関連にも注目されている．今回我々は，歯周病と全身疾患の関連について，現在明らかにされている主な知見を総括した．
