METHODS All men who underwent TRUS-guided prostate biopsy, they were evaluated with the five-item version of the Internatonal Index of erectil Function (IIEF-5), The first evaluation was before the biopsy and three assessments at 4,12 and 24 weeks after the biopsy, statistical analyses used were a general descriptive analysis, continuous variables using a t -test. A paired t -test was used to compare each patient’ s baseline score to their own follow-up survey scores, IBM SPSS Statistics 19® was used for all analyses. RESULTS Of 364 patients 93 patients met the inclusion criteria, they had an average age of 59 years, an average value of PSA 5.7 ng / ml, all the patients had = 22 points before TRUS-guided prostate biopsy after the biopsy, at 4 weeks 66.6% of patients remained with = 22 points, 26.88% patients classified with mild erectile dysfunction 4.30% with mild to moderate erectile dysfunction and 2.15% patients had moderate erectile dysfunction. On paired t -test there was a statistically signifi cant reduction in IIEF-5 score at 4 week after biopsy compared with before biopsy (p=0.001). During the second evaluation that was performed at 12 weeks patients have improved, only 3.6% had mild erectile dysfunction and 5.68% patients had mild to moderate dysfunction showing a significant difference (p = 0.04) and remained significantly reduced when they compared with the basal IIEF-5. In the third evaluation at 24 weeks 92.48% of the patients had = 22 points but only 7.52% patients persisted with mild erectile dysfunction the difference evaluated at 24 weeks was not significant (p = 0.1). CONCLUSIONS To our knowledge this is the first study which evaluated the effects on erectile function in men with out erectil dysfunction. Initial evaluation at 4 and 12 weeks patients have mild to moderate erectile dysfunction, which this should take into account when conunselled the patients about the prostate biopsy, It is important to be aware of these transient and temporal effects because most patients recover erectile function at 6 months. © 2016FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails Volume 195Issue 4SApril 2016Page: e334 Advertisement Copyright & Permissions© 2016MetricsAuthor Information Edgar Linden-Castro More articles by this author Marcela Pelayo-Nieto More articles by this author Daniel Espinosa-perezgrovas More articles by this author Adolfo Gonzalez-Serrano More articles by this author Gabriel Catalan-Quinto More articles by this author Roberto Cortez-Betancourt More articles by this author Expand All Advertisement Advertisement PDF downloadLoading ...
