Abstract

This paper describes development and characteristics of a new high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamp which presents comfortable lighting environments comparable to incandescent lamps. In addition to attractive color appearance, the new HPS lamp offers lamp efficacy of 40 to 60 lm/W and average life of 9,000 hrs. The new HPS lamp is expected to find out extensive applications in general lighting services, as an energy saving substitute for incandescent lamps.
