In China, "bamboo culture" has a long history. As bamboo has the features of growing fast with high yield, as well as high intensity, rigidity, thermal stability, and other strengths in physical performance, the application of this material in architecture will help to promote the green and sustainable development of the industry. This paper gives a brief introduction of the new bamboo material and its processing technology, while comparing its mechanical properties. The application ways of bamboo material in building structure, building skins and building decoration are also briefly analyzed to look into the challenges in the development of bamboo material and provoke thinking.
