Abstract

Determination of trace N, N -dimethylfolmamide (DMF) in environmental samples was investigated.A water sample was passed through an activated carbon column.DMF adsorbed on the activated carbon was eluted with dichloromethane. The eluate was concentrated, and then diluted with hexane. For elimination of other contaminants, DMF was extracted with water from the hexane layer and was extracted with dichlormethane from the water layer. The extract was concentrated and determined by capillary gas chromatography-selected-ionmonitoring.DMF in a sediment sample was extracted with water. The subsequent procedure was the same as above. The detection limits were 0.055ƒÊg/l in water samples and 1.7 ƒÊg/kg in sediment samples. The recoveries from purified water and sediment were 102% with coefficient of variation 3.1% and 105% with coefficient of variation 3.1%,respectively.
