Abstract

The State of Mississippi, because of its geographical location, supports a rich ant fauna. One hundred and forty species are known to occur in the state, and there are probably many more yet to be discovered. At least 20 of them are of economic importance. Chief among those regarded as pests, and the one which is given most attention, is the Argentine ant, Iridomyrmex humilis Mayr.
